When Santiago was founded, this piece of land was asigned for /to the founder of the city , pedro de valdivia. he built his house in this corner, and after his death it was used by other governors as a house. Then the house suffered different transformations, until it became in a neoclasic building. In 1820 it was call " the goverment palace". In 1846 the president Manuel Bulnes changed this house for the present palace of goverment, known today as "La Moneda" After many tragedies like the earthquakes in 1927 and 1985, big fires in 1881 and 1999, it was finally reinaugurated in 2001.

Cabildo

"In the same place where was the cabildo and jail operated in the coonila period, Mr Joaquin Toesca was build in 1785 a new building , but it was burn totally, then Eugenio Joannon rebuilt the building after the fire, preserving the neoclasic stile but he introduced a italian renaissance characteristics in to the building in 1891"

Museo Histórico Nacional

When Pedro de Valdivia died on the Battle of Tucapal on december 26th , 1553, his "solar" was divided in three parts: the governor's residence , known now as a "correo central" (post office). the real audiencia known now as "Historic National Museum" , and the last part was the city council (cabildo) , knwon now as a "City Hall of Santiago".
Here the most important events in chilean history took place such as the like the declaration of the independence of our country. Here we have the justice palace, and the first venue of chiliean congress. It was also rebuilt several times after natural events like the earthquakes of 1647 and 1730
