When Santiago was founded, this piece of land was asigned for /to the founder of the city , pedro de valdivia. he built his house in this corner, and after his death it was used by other governors as a house. Then the house suffered different transformations, until it became in a neoclasic building. In 1820 it was call " the goverment palace". In 1846 the president Manuel Bulnes changed this house for the present palace of goverment, known today as "La Moneda" After many tragedies like the earthquakes in 1927 and 1985, big fires in 1881 and 1999, it was finally reinaugurated in 2001.




Cabildo

"In the same place where was the cabildo and jail operated in the coonila period, Mr Joaquin Toesca was build in 1785 a new building , but it was burn totally, then Eugenio Joannon rebuilt the building after the fire, preserving the neoclasic stile but he introduced a italian renaissance characteristics in to the building in 1891"

When Pedro de Valdivia died on the Battle of Tucapal on december 26th , 1553, his "solar" was divided in three parts: the governor's residence , known now as a "correo central" (post office). the real audiencia known now as "Historic National Museum" , and the last part was the city council (cabildo) , knwon now as a "City Hall of Santiago".
Here the most important events in chilean history took place such as the like the declaration of the independence of our country. Here we have the justice palace, and the first venue of chiliean congress. It was also rebuilt several times after natural events like the earthquakes of 1647 and 1730

This is Museum is located in one of chile’s most emblematic buildings of the colonial period. Originally this building was the palace of the National Library and finally the courts of justice. Since 1980 is the museum of exhibits approximately 3.000 pieces of arts and thoughts of the American people this museum has one the oldest and more important collection in the Americas.

Its the most imporrtant center of artistic activities in Santiago. Here there have been perfonmances such as Opera, Ballet and high standar concerts.
It was built on 1853 in a piece of land occupied by Real Universidad de San Felipe, the first university in Chile (1738-1839), later it became in Universidad de Chile.
By decree of president Manuel Montt and his internal affair’s minister Antonio Varas, the Santiago’s city council was authrized to build a theater on this land.
It was founded on September 17th 1857. and it was named National Monument on August 09th 1974.
It has French Neoclassical style. Tthe most famous artists of national and intenational importance had been on that stage; Anna Pavlovna (Ballet), Margot Fonteyn (Ballet), Ballet Kirov of Saint Petersburg, Sophía Amic-Ghazan (singer), Verónica Villarroel (worldwide famous Chilean Opera singer), Plácido Domingo, Ramón Vinay (Chilean singer named like “the best performer of OTELLO” on years 1947 to 1959, Mischa Elman (Violinist), Arthur Rubinstein (pianist), Rosita Renard (Chilean pianist with international prestige) Claudio Arrau, Just to mention some...

Pedro de Valdivia brought in his colonizing expedition an image of the Virgen del Socorro.
All the people attributed to the possession of this virgin the credit of survived the indigenous assaults. After the foundation of the city, Pedro de Valdivia raises a request to the Chapter, in order to raise a hermitage in honor to the Virgen del Socorro. In 1554, the area of the Hermitage del Socorro is donated to the Franciscan order, which in 1572 place the first stone of the church.
The church and museum of San Francisco were built in 1586 and 1628 respectively. These monuments are the oldest architectural monuments preserved in Chile. On May 1647 an earthquake knocks down the tower and the second floor of the cloister. After several earthquakes and reconstructions in 1857 Fermín Vivaceta finishes the fourth and current tower, with clock.
In 1913 started the demolition and the sale of the interior cloisters of the convent. Place that nowadays occupy Paris and London streets.
The convent today is the Colonial Museum, and still in its walls remain 42 linens that narrate the life of San Francisco. These linens were realized in Peru in 1684.The Museo Colonial San Francisco also exhibits sculpture, silvermithing, carving and gratings from 1700 to 1900 centuries.
